Charles Mayo and the Mayo Clinic

Charles Horace Mayo was one of two brothers born to William Worrall Mayo, an immigrant physician who ended up living in Minnesota.

His sons Charles (b. July 19, 1865) and William James (b. June 29, 1961) grew up to be doctors too. And on October 8, 1919 when they signed documents turning over all practice assets to the Mayo Properties Association, for all intents and purposes they founded the Mayo Clinic, a not-for-profit facility which has gone on to save countless lives and become known around the world for cutting-edge research and a willingness to treat difficult so-called 'orphan' rare diseases.

 Charles Mayo - Natal Chart

To be born with a Cancer Sun is to have a natural polarization towards or against family. In Charles' case, Amphitrite (depth of emotion) sitting with his Sun (life) and Polyhymnia (happiness) in the 2nd house of values says he grew up immersed in family values and the values held by his family. It was his pleasure because he understood it as his destiny.

With the Gemini Moon ruling this triad conjunct Venus in a Taurus 12th, it's easy to see Charles Mayo as someone who was in it to help people, not for the money. That his Moon is allied with Rigel (brilliance of thought) and Lilith (what we don't want to see in ourselves) tells us he must have been hard on himself too, always asking, always probing, always trying to do a better job.

And with Scheherazade alongside? Given Scheherazade as the story of someone who in every day must earn the blessing of life, this describes Charles Mayo as someone who faced each day as a reprieve from death...and yet a day when death might yet again at his door. Even by his own hand.

In short, this is the very picture of a doctor anyone would want fighting for their life - because he would fight with everything he knew how to be, and the faith he could always learn more. That's who good doctors are.

There is a curious quality when the sign of a house is ruled by a planet in that house...it's rather like a 'closed circuit' which here has the Taurean 12th ruled by the Venus in that same house. The Venus sitting with Phaethon (willfulness) and Sabine (forced imprisonment) in this house of charity tells us much of how he felt about diseases which robbed people of a normal life, too. He must have hated it.

So it's no wonder, with Mnemosyne (here: in memory) on the 12th house cusp (charity, mercy)  from the 11th house side (the 11th being society connections and income)...it seems natural for him to sign over his clinic's (Venusian) property to that which would help others through illness. The Mayo Clinic saves lives. Charles Mayo was all about saving lives and helping people live. His 'closed circuit' is the world's gain.

Mayo Clinic itself has a really wonderful chart...

 Mayo Clinic

...right off the bat, it's Ascendant/Descendant line (the 'how we reach out into the world' aspect) is Sagittarian. And since it's in a physical (1st decan) degree, that fits perfectly; Sagittarius is all about seeing how things work, if they work and how you can make them work better and the Mayo Clinic is all about those things they can physically do to help someone life a physically better life. And since Sagittarius is also the sign of teaching, are we surprised that Mayo Clinic is on the cutting edge of so much medicine, helping teach the world how to care for various kinds of ills and illnesses?

And since Sagittarius is on the AS-cendant, that means Gemini is on the DE-scendant, a position where the Gemini ability to learn from others speaks volumes to caretakers who know how to listen to their patients. The Descendant also being about what we 'put out there' and thus what we are known for, Gemini says a lot for Mayo Clinic's willingness to say there's always more to learn and its legendary attitude of cooperation with institutions far and wide, strictly medical and otherwise.

Even better for Mayo: this axis is exactly conjunct two royal fixed stars - a sign of the 'calling' of Mayo's mission and the greatness to which it would (and obviously has) ascended.

The directed action point here (the Ascendant) is fused with and colored by Antares, a star all about doing to the nth degree without allowing yourself to becoming myopically obsessed in or by the process. With the ruling factor being the 8th house Jupiter, we know that Mayo Clinic has standards but does not treat all patients with any given 'standard' treatment. This is a hospital which is  always evolving.

With the Jupiter in a fixed (cautious) sign and the Ascendant in a mutable (flexible) sign, they are always willing to look at another way to do things. Mayo Clinic knows there is no one way to help all patients. And yet, they take great care with what they do; the position of Jupiter here means the love what they do but they are always aware that real lives are on the line.

Just in case we aren't convinced, on the other end of this axis stands Aldebaran - the symbolic model of integrity. How much better a signature for a hospital could one want? Ruled by a 22 degree Libra Mercury in the very public 10th house, Mayo Clinic exists to serve the world. And as it does, it understands that for all it may try its very best, it cannot cure everyone: with life, comes death. Yet ultimately, what they do is always about their medical integrity: Mayo Clinic is aware that the world looks to Mayo...

...And with Mercury conjunct knowledge-giving Spica, Mayo is looking out for us, too.

July 19th is Charles Mayo's birthday, and for all Charles Mayo and his family (and colleagues) did in their lifetimes...for all that those who work at and with Mayo Clinic do today and every day, I'm sure we can all join in wishing the spirit of one of the clinic's founders well...

...and wellness.

A Chip off the ol' Intel Silicon Block...!

Chip maker giant Intel is celebrating a birthday today - it's 42 years old. Having had it's 11th house of marketplace (meaning, income) just eclipsed, we can expect some changes a-comin' around the ol' digital Intel corral.

intel's Corporate Chart

One interesting thing to note about this chart is that its Sun stands conjunct Drakonia and Kallisto. Drakonia is the signature of 'playing,' 'being played' or 'being a player'...and when coupled to Antares and asteroid Child at the Nadir, that suggests a couple of things.

Child is just what you think it is. In a person's chart it can be your kids or you own childhood. But in a corporation's chart, it's far more likely to be 'about children' - either as your market or something you need to be concerned about with regards to exposure to or use of your product.

Fixed star Antares is a symbol of all you can do/get done providing you don't get obsessed. So add child and the idea of 'player' or 'playing' in the big digital Intel world and a bunch of issues jump to mind. And let's remember - anything posed at the Nadir/IC of any chart is the thing the chart (or life of the entity/person) is 'built on.'

Voila! This is a perfect image of Intel's importance to everything children grow up using, everything they can run afoul of while growing up, and everything Intel might do to enhance or assist their formative years.

But it's not just children, per se - it's the kid in each one of us. As much as companies like Intel want us to be fascinated with products they have a profitable part in building and bringing to market there is that problem of obsessions. Even addictions. Evidently Intel has to guard against that. Or use its chips to prevent that or provide ways for parents to guard their children against those many adult no-no's.

This last is especially apropos when we consider Kallisto in the mix. Kallisto is all about getting turned into a 'beast' before one is finally reprieved and set amongst the stars. Coming from the 11th house this implies Intel is vulnerable to being made into a 'villain' in the marketplace from time to time - even if someone uses their chips for some nefarious purpose.

Given that the Solar Eclipse of July 11th was at 19 Cancer, it not only hit both the Cancer 11th house cusp which describes Intel's reputation, income and market share (etc.)...this eclipse affects the Sun-Kallisto-Drakonia group simply because they're in this 11th house. Also in the 11th, the eclipse hit Mars (taking action), Orcus (judement for deeds done which cannot be changed) and Eurydike (sacrificing or paying the price) head on, too.

This implies Intel is taking some hit. And that it's going to continue taking a hit; there's also a Leo Venus in this 11th house and it too is connected to Drakonia. That sort of suggests stocks. Players in the market. Maybe a bad marketing ploy or defective products - something.

All and all, this is about Intel's position in the market, it's got a strong line towards the gaming side of things and let's not forget, chips aren't just about computers!

The whole of this 11th house complex being ruled by the a Taurus Moon in the 9th adds to this thought by telling us that the 'source' of whatever is going on is probably overseas. Does this point to some sort of electronic espionage? Maybe, but given this is an eclipse and thus a long-term shift, it's more likely to concern where the company is going and how they're going to profit from and by going there.

With Pluto wending its way back and forth through the 4th house of basics, 'home life' at a point where it's working over servant/servile Hebe ("what I bring to you") and Atlantis (the scary thought of having to abandon something you know) ...and with the 'what I don't really want to contend with' point (asteroid Lilith) going to be  conjuncted by Pluto early next year...that's another sign of change.

Third sign: the January 2011 Solar Eclipse is going to hit Intel's Vega/15 Capricorn 5th house cusp. And because Saturn rules Capricorn and Saturn is the premier symbol of business...well, by jove, I think we've found it.

Intel is about to make a big business move, probably involving something overseas from its US home base. Given the general emphasis on 'play' seen in the income producing 11th at the foundational IC core and the fun, film and theme park oriented 5th house to be eclipsed early next year, like as not Intel is moving ever more towards things having to do with 'entertainment.' The company is probably working behind the scenes right now on some form (or forms) of media we aren't even all that aware of.

The world is Intel's digital oyster. Either that - or if all goes terribly wrong, Intel may get eaten like an oyster.

Why would I say that? Well, the solar chart suggests Intel is in for a very hard run for it's money. Yes, literally.

Intel - Solar Return 2010

And don't kid yourself - the company is aware of it, too.

The good news is that with Spica on the Ascendant, there is something very new and brilliant brewing. With Eris at the De-scendant, it's going to either disrupt or truly rock our world!

Will they give us even a little hint about what this is all about?

Probably yes - a hint in mid-January (2011) about things which will happen in May (when Jupiter conjuncts the Descendant of this chart).

So keep your digital ears on, and in the meantime, happy birthday to Intel! Let's hear a big digital cheer!

Do you think they're serving chocolate chip ice cream at corporate headquarters today?

Using Ingress Charts

Since I'm always being asked how things like ingresses work, I'd like to offer an example. And not to worry, this isn't all that exotic. It's just about learning how to think in astrologese.

Let's start with one basic idea however: venue counts. What I mean by that is simple - if we're talking about your natal chart, the subject is you. Any transit to that natal chart is still totally about you. Maybe about how you will interact with others or how offended you will hear when for whatever reason you aren't applauded like some hero returning from deeds of derring do....but it's still about you.

Your chart is YOUR chart. To paraphrase a (Leo) girlfriend of long ago, it's SO all about you!

Against this we have things like ingress chart. They're not about you in particular. They're about Earth. They pertain to the planet and everything on it - so they're very big picture, impersonal and global POV.

Ironically, astrology refers to such global horoscopes as 'mundane.' Do you know anything mundane about existence on the planet? I sure don't. But that's what it's called - go figger!

Anyway, I live in the United States. And on Monday June 28th, we had a member of our US Congress die. His name was Senator Robert Byrd. He was 92. And he'd served a very, very long time - nine terms, to be exact.

As happens at such moments, reporters asked a flock of other Congress people what they thought of Robert Byrd. And what comes across is pretty clear: Robert Bryd not only knew what had happened in Congress, his country and the world during the time he had served, he was also a repository and reference source on rules of order, state protocol and ancient history. He was something of a patriarch to the whole of Congress.

He also was known as 'the King of Pork,' meaning that during his tenure he managed to get a whole lot of Federal money sent home to his constituents (literally billions) and when asked, he wasn't ashamed of what he'd done. Not at all.

Why? Because he considered that his job. He had been elected to represent the people of his state, and Robert Byrd took his job as provider very seriously. If a state could be seen as a household, he thought of himself as its breadwinner.

So what's this got to do with the Cancer ingress chart?

Well look at the chart - and since the one in the sidebar is pictured with astrological glyphs, let's put this one in a bit of a more 'plain-speak' format:

June 21, 2010 Cancer Ingress chart
Okay...now look at the bottom of the chart - where it says "Sun." You'll see that that's opposite "Plu" (Pluto) at the top of the chart. Pluto's keywords are create, deny, destroy. And one of the interesting items which doesn't get talked about much with reference to the 4th house (and Cancer, it's native ruling sign) is that this is often the house of 'endings.' Yes, as in life.

So that 'ending' thing is one theme of this ingress, as we discussed in the article about the ingress per se. There's a whole theme about global change going on, and the real question is whether we want to make changes or have change forced upon us. (And yes, this does apply to each and every person on said planet too.)

So the ingress happened on June 21st. And ever since then, with every day, the Sun has ticked along through the zodiac at the basic rate of one degree a day (a little less, but let's go with one degree)...such that on this past Monday - the day that Robert Byrd died - the Sun conjuncted Juno.

And what is Juno about? Typically spoken of as 'female strength' (and female head of household, defender of children, protector of the hearth and home, etc.) this symbol shouldn't be viewed in terms of gender. No astrological symbol should - after all, they all appear in every chart. Juno can be a strong female in the household, yes. But it could also be that quality of protectiveness and 'household leadership' which responds to situations as they arise, coping and providing for the good of those in the home. Or homeland.

So as the Sun came to Juno, it's intrinsically Plutonic create, deny, destroy energy was set off in terms of a Juno figure - Senator Robert Byrd.

And that's how ingress charts work. Obviously a lot of things happened. But there was a theme to that day. And once we learn how to use such themes, we come to be able to look ahead, knowing not just when to expect things will happen, but when the time will be right and ripe for us to make our own moves.

Powerful things, ingress charts. Does it make you want to know when the next door will open - and what it will open to?

Happy Birthday, Clean Energy (Or Maybe Not Yet?)

Passed on June 26, 2009, the Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 is about to have a birthday. Considering how this 'birthday' is marked by a lunar eclipse and a massive oil spill, that says something. But what?

The Sun – the will of this Act is pictured in its chart at 5 Cancer, making the bill's realistic nature one rife with ‘disagreements,’ ‘indecisiveness,’ even 'miserliness' in the money department. Another big difficulty? The lack of ability (“defenselessness”) when it comes to dealing with human weakness. According to the Sun's position, the desire to 'hear all and judge fairly' gets in the way.

Not exactly an auspicious start, wouldn't you say?

Moving on...with this Sun closely associated with service-oriented Vesta at 3 Cancer, the 'will' in this bill will suffer in martyred silence - which is probably why we've heard so little about it during this past year. In fact, if this bill had any teeth, this Vesta would have so little ‘toughness’ that you might figure a political dentist had gone in and pulled all the teeth out.

Okay...so now we have a bill which not only cannot enunciate its intent, but in the 'biting off what you can chew' department may well earn the right to be retitled "The Gumming Act." Apparently this Act is up to pablum, but not much else.

But things may be about to change.

For one, the rather wussy Sun/Vesta of this bill is opposed by a Capricorn Pluto conjunct Klotho ('a starting point'), Edisonia ('the new idea') and Mnemosyne (memory). Capricorn being about commerce, government and structure, this makes Mnemosyne historical memory, Edisonia new commercial methods and Klotho/Pluto a ‘switch’ which tells us that once the chart is activated, its premises go to work.  And thus it may do some good.

So now we look for something to activate it.

A Moon at 28 Leo tells us that the passage of the Act was a proud achievement. Yet with this Moon being in the 12th house, that pride was probably mostly limited to the halls of Congress. Nobody outside the Capitol was apparently much impressed. Why not?

Because nothing had been done yet. Amazing how lawmakers forget that part...

This Moon is actually the biggest indicator of problems in the whole chart (and hence, the bill). Why? Because in a chart, when the Moon hold the "highest numerical position" in the chart, that horoscope is said to have a 'Void of Course' Moon. And when we see a VOC Moon, we think of the chart as being an 'end product' - content to be what it is and not highly dynamic in a strictly worldly 'go-getter' way.

So this bill - as it stands, will never do anything, or get anything done. One could say it's pretty much....dead in the water.

Fitting, don't you think?

But even if that's so, why that is provides grist for our learning curve because it tells us how, why and when we may begin getting ourselves out of what is looking more than a little like an aquatic tar pit. And that's plainly worth knowing.

This part of the answer starts with recognizing the Act's grand trine in earth signs, earth being all about tangible commodities and, when we talk specifically about energy, forms of same which come from the Earth. Interesting how in a Clean Energy Act this would by element rule out all discussions of wind, solar, water and tidal energy, pointing to coal, oil and nuclear as the point of the bill, right?

That's how astrology works.

So what are grand trines? A grand trine is composed of three trines hooked together by numerical aspect producing a picture of an equilateral triangle which represents a ‘closed circuit’ of ongoing influence.

Grand trines are notorious for being wretchedly hard to break into. Or out of.

The first point in the configuration involves the Ascendant, the ‘funnel’ or 'aperture' through which any chart performs...the present tense doing of it all.

This Ascendant is at 20 Virgo, a 3rd decanate degree all about a battle, but not much about winning. In governmental terms, this means much talking, less than sterling amounts of action and probably few if any results.

Plus...sitting right behind this Ascendant (in prime position to affect doings) we have  Saturn and TNO Typhon, both at 16 Virgo. (article on Typhon

Typhon is primitive, titanic forces - of the Earth and in the choices/actions of mankind. And Virgo? In worldly terms, Virgo is ‘health,’ ‘the workforce’ and ‘ongoing functionality,’ all of which in an energy bill underscores how energy keeps modern society moving, the dangers associated with energy production and how Typhon things can get when energy production goes wrong.

Saturn is Virgo is viability of functionality – the ‘the health of’ a society, an industry, a country or a world. In perfected conjunction with Typhon in a degree about dangers which arise 'when precision goes awry.'

That these two symbols are 'married' in the 12th house conjunct the Ascendant is highly potent - and therefore highly problematic. But also interesting, especially if you're looking for a way for this Clean Energy/Security Act to 'find its voice' in the world. The 12th being known as ‘the house of limitations,’ and a Virgo Saturn in negative form being not only fear of tampering with the system but also fear of destruction of the environment tells us a lot about how this Act works - even symbolically.

That it would take a real disaster isn't out of line here, either - the 12th is notorious for its lack of realism (you know, that 'think good thoughts and everything will be just fine!' stuff)...and we are talking about an earth sign (Virgo). Earth signs do like tangible results. Or a tangible disasters - yes, like the Deepwater Horizon explosion and all that oil pouring through the Gulf, invading America's southern coast.

With the Moon of this chart in the 12th, and given that in a governmental bill the Moon is always going to represent (among other things) the people, we shouldn't be shocked that Americans turned a blind eye to necessity until the reality of a disaster hit home in spades. It would be far easier (and natural) for any government and its people to 'see' the Moon as money - which it also traditionally is. In that light the Moon in 12 would be a fear of what changing over to clean energy would cost. And what would happen to energy industries and people employed by same along the way.

Speaking of people and money, there's a whole other side of this 12th house Moon to consider here too - that being the 12th as the house of ‘passive income’ (royalties, dividends, lease payments, annuities, pensions). Have we thought about how many pension plans are invested in energy? If not, maybe we should - starting with looking to what happened to BP's stock the minute the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded.

And what happened? BP’s stock exploded too - sinking about as quickly as the multi-mega-million-dollar drilling rig. A whole lot of UK pension plans had been invested in BP, relying on BP’s enormous yearly dividend payouts to support their pensioned clients. And those which hadn't already gotten out surely bailed when BP signed up for a USD $20 billion fund to begin paying off US damages, announcing it would suspend payments of dividends through (at least) the end of 2010.

Also – don’t kid yourself: this isn’t the end of the money pipeline. Any company which sets up a $20 billion dollar fund knows this is just the start of a long, long payout.

Speaking of which, the 12th house is the part of the chart all about toxins, toxicity and ‘latent illness’ which develops down the line. So while Typhon/Saturn is on one hand the fear of tampering with business, it’s also about the damage which can be incurred because OF a business.

This is also where we finally 'get' that this particular Act is really about oil. Coal and nuclear may well have their problems, but neither is a 12th house commodity. This bill is about OIL.

Moving to the 2nd point in the grand trine, we get more specifics, starting with the fact that this second trine is positioned in the 9th house, classically the house of 'finding out what doesn't work' and 'things foreign'  which from the POV of an Act passed by a US Congress seems a perfect description of BP having problems with its deep water (and Deepwater) well.

In this 9th house we have a Taurus Venus and Mars.

When Mars in Taurus works well, it 'goes after' what is wanted. When it doesn't work well, it manifests in disputes and frustrations, blowouts, feelings of obligation, neglect and various kinds of inability to control.

Generally a wellspring of receptiveness, Venus in Taurus is easily seen as 'lucrative' and yet can wax as far as 'greedy.'

Together, these two are a quintessential 'lets make something happen,'  which in a political chart and earth sign (Taurus) says security and safety really would fit the bill (so to speak) in Congress' efforts to get this Act passed.

But the reality of Taurus is also about money in the bank. And given that Sun/Vesta thing, and that Saturn and Moon in 12th thing, we have a really good picture of stress between that right intent and the rights of business and the right thing to do for the economy and a national populace vastly unaccustomed to deprivation - even inconvenience.

And let's not kid ourselves: this is also a perfect picture of foreign entities having no reason at all to want anything about current US oil attitudes to change...which in monetary terms rather leaves the United States reaching to grabbing cash out of its own back pocket by bending over and reaching between its legs.

(Yes, I wax poetic here. And I’d say ‘at least I wax!’ but this is a g-rated blog and joke or no joke, that just goes into a quadrant which is simply TMI!)

With Venus/Mars conjunct Sedna and this being the highest point in the grand trine we are informed that it will take death and storms of chaotic proportions to shift the power in this chart. (The astrology of Sedna) And it's not just Sedna (though that's quite enough!...there's an asteroid named Atlantis sitting conjunct Sedna, giving us two highly potent indicators that the crisis which erupts requires not just letting go of 'life as you know it' but that this is about power found at the bottom of the ocean.

With Chaldea joining the group, we have one clear problem in the chaos being ‘antiquated knowledge,’ to which we add fixed star Capulus at 24 Taurus and fixed star Algol conjunct Nemesis at 26 Taurus.

Atlantis/Mars is the emotional (2nd decanate) part of this story, taking us back to how hard it is to change. Or even contemplate change, nevermind enact it. All the rest are 3rd decanate symbols (in degrees 20-29) - which tells us that it takes a truly titanic (Typhon) sort of crisis for things in the US to really change. What sort of crisis? Well, Capulus/24 Taurus is essentially a rape. And not the event of the rape, rather the horror which lingers on and on and on. How the whole of a life is forever changed because the rape destroys some sort of innocence or denial that it could 'ever happy to you.'

As for Algol/Nemesis at 26 Taurus...that’s the ‘I told you so’ or the ‘you knew this could happen’ which either recalls Pollyanna thinking on the part of mankind or what may have been best put by JRR Tolkien (and filmmakers who have walked in his word) in Lord of the Rings when talking about a creature called a Balrog: those who will be so greedy as to delve too deep will stir up dangers beyond conscious calculation. (Here I paraphrase liberally, but suffice it to say those who know the book, know the reference).

What’s interesting here is that this chart tells us that it would not ultimately be a US concern which would do the ultimate ‘drilling too deep’…and indeed it wasn’t. The Deepwater rig belongs to Transocean: a company based in Zug, Switzerland. And BP is British.

The third leg of this grand trine is calculated Lilith at 19 Capricorn conjunct Arachne at 18 Capricorn and fixed star Vega at 15 Capricorn.

Again – Capricorn is a sign of government, business and commerce as structural entities (income from business and the economy or economics is Aquarian). The calculated form of Lilith is all about what we don’t want to look at in/about the workings of society.

Positioned in a degree all about the ability to take a stoic and solid stand against things, with Capricorn ruled by that Saturn/Typhon ‘don’t rock the boat!’ thing in 12 we know the lack of this ability is something that neither the US government nor its people really want to deal with.

Especially with this Lilith being positioned in the 4th house of the chart, we know this is about the people and the government of the people more interested in catering to the businesses of the land than the land itself - the treasure extracting exceeding the treasure of the inheritance and homeland. And the people of the US along with their government are hooked into this 9th house of ‘things foreign’: Americans are plainly not liking the idea of owning their own culpability in the world, in their homeland or for a future they love to talk about but don't like really planning for. Everyone bitches about it, but no one really wants to….(ugh!) …DEAL with it.

With Arachne (the spider) involved, we have the issue of being ‘tangled in a web’ – obviously of our own building. And we can expect all discussions of clean energy to always include the idea that 'we've been ensnared’ – it’s their fault we’re in this mess! (whoever 'they' are)

And yet…we know. Vega is a fixed star all about knowing. Conjunct calculated Lilith however, it loses its charismatic ability – which may be why in America, Presidents as far back as Nixon have been pointedly calling for changes in attitudes about energy (“energy independence”) without much ever getting done about it.

So what does it take for a grand trine to be ‘broken’ into and made functional? Can it be made functional?

This bill with it’s Void of Course (ineffective) Moon is not going to do the job. That much is plain. But by virtue of the lunar eclipse on its birthday AND a July 11 solar eclipse exactly in opposition to its Lilith...?

That suggests big, big changes in the works. America needs to learn some
lesson - that's evidenced in this chart by Mercury positioned well in Gemini near the Midheaven, but on the 'wrong' side to be instantly effective. So this bill was before its time. And with Mercury exactly conjunct fixed star Rigel-the-teacher at 16 Gemini with the Midheaven at 18 Gemini, the implied "two unit difference" suggests a two year gap between this bill and something actually done.

However...! Tantalus is also in this picture. And Tantalus is all about the
'tantalizing' choice between using what one knows for gain and personal use (regardless of cost) – or knowing that things need to be done better so that ultimately life itself is a better thing to live.

So that's what remains to be dealt with, one supposes - and thus as we come to this lunar eclipse on the Sun of this Act (and incidentally, also almost atop the current corporation chart for BP, making it a lightning rod in its own right)...all that comes to the fore.

Thus now comes a three-year solar eclipse hurricane timed out by this  chart. At the end of that, we will see what still stands, what has fallen, and what has washed up on which shore of our collective, 12th house conscious choice.

This bill evidently said “fear now or later?” and evidently everyone said 'later,' thinking ‘later’ would be a whole lot farther down the line.

Apparently, everyone was wrong.

96 Percent Unknown...the Macro-Microcosm of it all

We like to think we know what's going on in life, but evidently we don't.Of the 100% of
everything which Is, 23% is "dark matter" - stuff in our universe we can't quite define.

Another 73% is "dark energy" - stuff we don't even have much of a clue about.

That adds up to 96%.

And that 96% of Existence is unknowns means only 4% of everything is known.

Which leaves a lot of room for growing, never mind not knowing.

Way back when there was this group in Egypt known as the Hermeticists. Nifty in their
time, they left us one really superb expression: "As above, so below." It's an early sort of universal statement which science has fleshed out with cause/effect, E=mc2'd and the endless if fabulously fascinating patterns in existence, time, structures...all of which appear on the grand scale, the not-so grand scale and so on, right down to the
piddly and puny scale of life.

It's all patterns. It's all cause/effect. And what we see? What we know? That's just the tip of the iceberg!

Now that we all know this much, let's move on to June 26, when We of Earth are going to experience a lunar eclipse. (Yes, there's a solar eclipse on July 11, but first things first!)

This lunar eclipse pictures the Sun at 4 Cancer with Mercury nearly alongside at 2 Cancer. Any time Mercury is that close to the Sun there's a focus of thought - in fact probably to some extent such an over-focus or narrowness of focus that we miss some of the bigger, more important factors.

You know, those things which it might just help if we knew?

The hardest part of being a person sometimes is definitely the 'being human' part, yes.

Anyway...so what's on the dinner table at this eclipse? Well, this 4 Cancer degree is itself about tests of rationality. How would you like your rationality served, my dear...rare, medium or well done?

Obviously we'd all like to think our rationales are 'well done' (no bleeding hearts on my plate, please), but this is a primal sort of degree which often tests our ability to be reasonable that we are left...raw.

As for 2 Cancer, this would be the bratty kid in the family. You know the one - the kid who hogs everything and enjoys upsetting everyone else?

Taken together this may well describe people or situations or societal entities which act rather selfish - even to the extent of choosing incompetency (even corruption) over other things just to get your way.

Or so that you/they don't have to face the real truth. Or reality, take your pick.

But being that Cancer is ruled by the Moon...never mind that we're talking about a LUNAR eclipse (oh, helloooo - lunar? As in loony and lunatic?)...all this takes us back to the Moon-Pluto end of the stick.

And what a stick it is (you should be so lucky not to have it stuck to you!) Occurring in Capricorn, we know this eclipse concerns itself with structures or 'things structural' ...in your life, maybe in your body, with the job, the relationship - you name it.  Plus if we're talking Moon, we start out with a definite theme of 'status quo,' everyday life, life as we know it - all that.

Into all this comes Pluto. Pluto is one of those metaphysical verbs which come as standard equipment with our solar system. And what Pluto 'says' (thematically) is this: what you get depends on what you chose. So where structures you've chosen are viable, you win. Where they're not so viable, you get clonked on the head (or some other appropriate part - not for me to say).

Oh - and I need to mention one more itty, bitty thing. Maybe not so itty bitty, come to think about it...this eclipse? It's formulated in a configuration known as a t-square. T-squares are all about challenges: think of the 't' as a hurdle set up on a running track. You start out with good intentions, and if you're able to jump the hurdle, you  continue to the finish. If you don't, you return to 'go' and start again.

In this particular configuration, since Moon-Pluto is standing at 'go' and this IS an eclipse, the failure is likely to really, really hurt. And if you fall, what are you going to fall ON?

That's right - the hurdle.

And what is this particular hurdle composed of? Well, first there's Uranus (terrible thing to fall on, Uranus...) Metaphysically speaking, this is innovative change versus disruptive anarchy - your choice.

But wait - there's more! Next is Jupiter - which is either the expanding of our horizons and the glory of growth or getting overwhelmed, overburdened or blown out of the water by your own foolish arrogance.

And we're not done. Standing with this possibly great, possibly terrible pairing is Lust (obsessive fixation versus productive passion), Eos (insatiable appetite/greed versus delighted fascination) and Tantalus (using knowledge for personal gain, regardless of the cost versus ridding the/your world of ills).

Being that this entire symbolic passel is in Aries, the thing we have to get past is something in ourselves. And those who don't, won't or are living in denial? They're the ones likely to get the worst of the Moon-Pluto (ruling) end of this eclipse as they fall on their Eos-Lust-Tantaus-Jupiter-Uranus.

Which is better than falling on one's sword, if only because it's less likely to be fatal. (Still...big ouch. Mega ouch!)

Even more to the point are two other items worth mentioning - Pallas at  4 Scorpio (intuitive Wisdom) and Chiron at 0 Pisces conjunct calculated Lilith and 29 Aquarius (understanding society/social ills). In trine to the Mercury/Sun and sextile Moon-Pluto this is a figure known as a 'kite' in which though it's really, really tough to stop doing what we've been doing because oooooh, it's so much easier than other things and we really like doing it our way (and behaving like brats)...

...in spite of all, we know better. Like, oy...what a pain. A pain in my...

(No, I'm not going there.)

So why bring this into a discussion about how much we don't know about our universe and Existence? Because when Pluto-Moon come together they become a
door. And that door can close in your face hard. Or it can open before you, allowing you to explore a life, a world, a universe...

...96% of which you don't yet know. And that would be the purpose of eclipses to begin with.

Uranus and BP's Blowout

For those of you following what seems an interminable series of 'we're getting there' announcements coming out of British Petroleum (BP), when they started delays late last week it occurred to me that it might just be a very good thing if the delay took them all the way to that magical moment when Uranus will leave 29 Pisces and enter Aries.

Adjusting for time (to the site of the oil change), this event will occur on Thursday, May 27 at 8:44 in the evening. What does this mean if the attempt is made prior to this time? Obviously in terms of environmental effects, this leak can't be stopped a moment too soon. But does this timing of the shift into Aries and out of Sheat-occupied critical degree 29 Pisces tell us that anything done prior to this time is doomed not to work.
Pulling transits to the chart for the discovery of Uranus (a move made simply out of curiosity) reveals the transit North Node (propriety of necessity) conjunct Eris (discord) on Wednesday, May 26th at 6:09 in the evening, Deepwater time.

It will be interesting to see how that manifests.

Whatever happens at that point, there is a clear sign of 'shifting management' which shows on the BP corporate chart come Saturday morning (UK time). For those of the astro-techy tribe, the transit is Juno conjunct Pluto with Juno being in BP's natal 9th house and Pluto being in BP's natal 11th, just conjunct its North Node - which among other things speaks to corporate income. This may indicate an actual change of management, a shift of management with regards to this blow out or something else which will affect BP's income - and let's face it, if the US decides to send in military assets to fix what BP isn't fixing, that's going to be a very expensive bill hitting BP's bottom line.

Think the US won't do that? They do. Back when I was working in motion pictures, one of the films I worked on got permission to film aboard an aircraft carrier. There's a whole hairy story which goes with this, but the part which applies to this discussion is that when the film crew left, the carrier's captain had a survey done of everywhere the crew had been. The production company was summarily served with a bill covering the cost of repainting not just walls and railings, but a large section of the flight deck... and that's very special (and very expensive) paint they use on those decks, since it has to provide landing and take-off traction for fighter jets.

Last note here...having secured the actual date of incorporation for BP (from the company itself) somewhere in the next couple of weeks I will undertake to write an article on same. It may get posted here, or it may get posted at Daykeeper Journal  (www.daykeeperjournal.com) ...I will at the very leave a message here to let everyone know.
